About us

BABSSCo (The British Association of Boarding School Short Courses) was founded in 1995, although the permanent schools in the Association have been educating children for hundreds of years. BABSSCo's head office is based at Harrow School and has a full-time team of eight provided by Harrow School Enterprises Ltd., the commercial arm of Harrow School.

Our courses offer a full programme of English as a foreign language (EFL) tuition, as well as social activities, sports and excursions, so that you practise your English all day. When you come on our courses, you get a taste of life in the UK as well as the chance to improve your speaking and understanding of everyday English.

BABSSCo is a truly international experience - since we began we have welcomed over 8,000 students from more than 50 countries on our English Language Courses. Many students come back year after year, either to try a different course at one of our other schools or to meet up with old friends by returning to the same centre. You can choose from courses at five of the best UK boarding schools. All the schools have excellent facilities in a unique environment.

BABSSCo courses have a high ratio of staff to students, so there are plenty of people looking after you and making sure you are safe and happy while you learn English and have a great holiday. Some of the staff are regular teachers at the schools themselves and some are students who recently attended our schools full time. Some are former BABSSCo students who have enjoyed our courses in the past so much they have now become staff members themselves! Where relevant, sporting and other activities are instructed by professional coaches.

The activities staff supervise and instruct you in sports and other activities and encourage you to learn new skills. They go on excursions with you and join in the evening social programme. Some staff members are resident and stay in the boarding houses to look after you in the evenings and at night.

An experienced senior member of BABSSCo staff is responsible for student welfare at each school. The teachers are all EFL (English as a Foreign Language) qualified.
